Traditional RackingSince I took my first trad climbing course, I've been fascinated by how greatly racking influences your climbing. I have spent a huge amount of time and energy studying this, refining my own racking, and developing some of my own principles for racking gear. When I refer to "racking gear" - I'm referring to two processes: selection of the right gear, and arranging the gear for carrying on lead. Optimizing both of these processes helps assure that the leader will have the gear he or she needs, and can easily get the gear from the harness/sling to the placement. This increases the speed, efficiency, safety, and confidence of the leader. Remember, what you learn here is only a start. Putting into practice what you have learned and gaining experience is what helps move you from a knowledgeable climber to a wise climber. On this page I'll address the two processes of traditional racking: gear selection and gear arrangement. -Coming soon- |
